Field Update
On Friday, 25 October 2019, a young man was killed during a shooting at Nablus Municipality crews who were removing structural encroachments of commercial shops onto the public street in Rafidia, Nablus. This incident is part of the proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 07:30 on Friday, 25 October 2019, Feras ‘Issam As’ad al-Shayeb (21), from Nablus, was shot with a live bullet in the neck when one of the shop owners opened fire at the municipality crews who were removing the structural encroachments under the protection of the security services in Rafidia, west of Nablus. Al-Shayeb was near the municipality construction vehicle that was shot and he has no relation to the incident. Al-Shayeb was taken by a car belonging to the municipality to Nablus Special Hospital where he was admitted to the Emergency Department in a serious health condition and stayed until he died. Later, the Palestinian police declared they arrested the person accused of the shooting.

PCHR also calls upon the competent authorities to prosecute those responsible for committing these incidents and take the necessary action to guarantee civilians’ safety and ensure non-recurrence of such incidents.
