Yesterday evening, a citizen was killed after being shot with a live bullet in a family dispute that broke out in his sister’s house in Deir al-Hatab village, east of Nablus. This incident is part of misuse of firearms, security chaos, and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at around 14:50 on Monday, 11 September 2023, (A. E. S.) (65), from ‘Askar al-Balad village, arrived as a dead body at Rafidia Governmental Hospital after being shot with a live bullet in his chest. (A. E. S.) was visiting his sister who lives at the entrance to Deir al-Hatab village, northeast of Nablus, where a dispute erupted between him and his sister’s family and firearms were used. As a result, (A. E. S.) was injured with a live bullet in his chest, which led to his immediate death.
Afterwards, the Palestinian police arrived and surrounded the house where (A. E. S.) was killed, and ordered the suspect of the shooting to surrender. PCHR calls upon the authorities to take serious and immediate action to cease the state of firearms misuse and instantly impose order and the rule of law in order to maintain civil peace, especially in light of the recent ongoing murder cases in the oPt.
