Field Update
Yesterday, two members of the al-Zinati family from Jabalia
refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip were wounded, when an armed man fired
at them due to an old familial dispute. This
incident is part of the state of security chaos and misuse of weapons
prevailing in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian
Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 16:00 on Sunday, 03 October
2010, Abdul Salam Abdul Men’em al-Zinati, 35, a member of the Civil Defense Service,
was wounded by a bullet to the right thigh. He was fired at by an armed man on the ground of an old familial dispute,
while he was sitting in front of his house in Block 5 in Jabalya refugee
camp. In addition, Ahmed Ramadan
al-Zinati, 20, who is physically disabled, was wounded by shrapnel of bullets to
his feet. The two wounded persons were
transported to Martyr Kamal ‘Odwan Hospital in Beit Hanoun town to receive necessary
medical treatment. Abdul Salam was then
transferred to Shifa hospital in Gaza City as his wound was serious. The Palestinian police arrived at the area,
initiated an investigation and arrested a suspect.
PCHR strongly condemns using weapons in familial disputes,
which is considered part of the state of security chaos and misuse of weapons
prevailing in the OPT, and calls upon the Attorney-General to seriously
investigate the attack and bring perpetrators to justice.
