Field Update
On Sunday, two citizens, including a 13-year-old girl, were wounded after a gunman fired several bullets at them during a family dispute in Beit Hanoun, north of the Gaza Strip. This falls within the state of the proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), on Sunday, 20 October 2019, a gunman opened fire from a machine gun at Hatem Sabri al-Kafarnah (53) while walking near his house in eastern Beit Hanoun. Hatem sustained 7 live bullet wounds to the hands and feet; additionally, Nour Isma’il Mohamed al-Kafarnah, a passerby, was shot in the waist. They were taken to the Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia Camp; Nour was later transferred to al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City due to her serious health condition.
The Palestinian police arrived at the area, inspected the scene and arrested the shooter.
PCHR is concerned over the increasing number of victims due to the use of firearms and so calls upon the competent authorities to take all necessary measures to end the proliferation of weapons and maintain civilians’ security and safety.
