Palestinian Women Killed in Jabalya as a Result of Misuse of Weapons

Field Update

Yesterday,
Zohour Khellah, from Jabalya al-Nazla village in the northern Gaza Strip, was
killed as she was hit by a bullet that came out from a firearm while her
husband was cleaning it inside their house.
In a anotherincident, Walid Jebril, from Qalqilya town in the northern
West Bank, was wounded the day before yesterday by a bullet that came out from
a firearm that his friend was playing with.
These two incidents are a part of the state of security chaos and misuse
of weapons that continue to plague the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).

According to
investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at
approximately 11:40 on Wednesday morning, 06 October 2010, the body of Zohour
Ghazi Khellah/Abu Warda, 25, from Jabalya al-Nazla village, was brought at
Shifa Hospital in Gaza City as she was hit by a bullet into the abdomen.  The bullet was unleashed accidentally from a
firearm that Khellah’s husband was cleaning in their house.

Police
sources stated to a PCHR fieldworker that the police arrived at the incident
scene, checked it and arrested the husband pending investigation.

In another
incident, at approximately 15:30 on Tuesday afternoon, 05 October 2010, Walid
Abdul Rahman Jebril, 38, was wounded into the thigh by a bullet that came out
from a firearm that his friend was playing with while they were in Kfar Saba
neighborhood, east of Qalqilya.  Medical
sources in Darwish Nazzal Public Hospital reported that Jebril arrived at the Hospital
in a critical condition.  He immediately
underwent a surgery to remove the bullet.
His health condition is stable now.

PCHR is
concerned over the increase of such incidents which are a par of the state of security
chaos and misuse of weapons plaguing the OPT.
PCHR calls upon competent authorities to take necessary measures to
ensure the non-recurrence of such incidents.
