Man Killed and 6 Injured by Gunfire in Jabalya

Field Update

  

This morning, a man was killed and 6 persons,
including 2 children and a woman, were injured when guns were used in a family
dispute in the northern Gaza Strip town of Jabalya.  This incident is part of the phenomenon of
the proliferation of weapons and assaults on the rule of law prevailing in the
occupied Palestinian territory. 

 

According to investigations conducted by the
Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 07:40 on
Wednesday, 12 December 2012, a dispute erupted between the families of Qazqaz
and Shihada in al-Nazla Street in Jabalya. 
The dispute escalated when one of the parties used a Kalashnikov rife.  As a result of the gunfire, Ramadan Yousef
Qazqaz, 34, was killed by 2 bullets to the head and the chest.  Another 6 persons, including 2 children and a
woman, were also injured:

 

1- Israa;
Nabeel Qazqaz, 4, injured by shrapnel throughout the body;

2- Khadra Elias
Qazqaz, 9, injured by shrapnel throughout the body;

3- Shirin
Tayseer Qazqaz, 26, injured by a bullet to the abdomen;

4- Mohammed
Abdullah Nasser, 60, injured by 2 bullets to the right hand and thigh;

5- Ramez Riad
Nasser, 20, injured by a bullet to the right hand; and

6- Anas Nazeeh
Qazqaz, 34, injured by a bullet to the abdomen. 

 

Additionally, Mohammed Mohammed Shihada, 20,
sustained injuries and bruises during the dispute.   The Palestinian police arrived at the scene,
opened an investigation and arrested a person who is suspected for shooting.  They also arrested a number of members of the
two families for investigation. 

 

PCHR strongly condemns this incident which is
part of the phenomenon of the proliferation of weapons and assaults on the rule
of law prevailing in the oPt, and calls upon the public prosecution to
seriously investigate it and bring the perpetrators before justice.
