On Sunday, 23 February 2020, Nablus Special Hospital in Nablus announced the death of Mahmoud Fareed ‘Adili (55), from ‘Ousrin village southeast of Nablus, succumbing to wounds he sustained a month and half ago in his head in a family dispute in which firearms were used, further aggravating the current state of security chaos in the occupied Palestinian territory.
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), on Monday, 06 January, ‘Adeeli was shot with a bullet to the head during a family dispute he was not a part of in Ousrin village. ‘Adeeli was taken to Nablus Special Hospital in Nablus, in a critical health condition and stayed in the Hospital until he was pronounced dead yesterday. Investigations indicate that one of the family members opened fire at a car carrying workers in the village, where ‘Adeeli was sitting beside the driver. Loay Rzaikat, the Police spokesperson said that the General Attorney opened an investigation into the case and referred the body to the Forensic Medicine Department of al-Najah University to identify the cause of death.
PCHR is concerned over the escalation of armed clashes between feuding families and the increasing number of victims, resulting from weapons misuse and assaults against the rule of law. PCHR calls upon the concerned authorities to take the necessary measures to provide protection for civilians from weapons misuse.
