Young Man Killed by His Sister in Gaza

On Monday, 11 March 2013, a 20 year old
Palestinian man, Mohammed Ashraf Ismail Shraim, residing in the al-Jalaa street
in Gaza City. was shot dead by his younger sister during a quarrel that erupted
between them.  This incident is part of
the phenomenon of the proliferation of weapons in the occupied Palestinian
territory (oPt).  His body was later
taken to the Shifa Hospital, Gaza City.

 

According to Major Raed al-Batniji, spokesman
of Palestinian police in Gaza, the victim’s younger sister deliberately fired
at him.  She used a gun owned by another
family member and fired at him in a fit of rage.  The police have arrested the girl and she is
being interrogated.

 

PCHR considers this incident to be a part of
the phenomenon of the proliferation of weapons and an assault on the rule of
law in the oPt. PCHR calls upon the official bodies to take serious steps to
stop the misuse of weapons and provide protection to civilians.
