Woman Shot Dead by Her Father

Field Update

 

On Wednesday morning, Sawsan Mohsen, 26, from the northern Gaza
Strip town of Jabalya, died of wounds she had sustained by her father. This murder is part of the state of security
chaos and proliferation of weapons prevailing in the Occupied Palestinian
Territory (OPT).
 

 

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for
Human Rights, at approximately 00:50 on Wednesday, 24 August 2011, Sawsan
Hammouda Mohammed Mohsen, 26, from ‘Izbat al-Yasmine area in Jablaya, was
evacuated to Kamal ‘Edwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, as she was
wounded by a bullet to the head. As she
was in a critical condition, she was transferred to Shifa Hospital in Gaza
City. Nevertheless, she died of her
wound at approximately 09:45.

 

According to police sources, the victim’s father fired at her from
a pistol, and the crimes was committed on a criminal ground. The police went to the victim’s house,
arrested the father and initiated an investigation. 

 

PCHR condemns this crime, which is part of the state of security
chaos and proliferation of weapons prevailing in the OPT, and calls upon the
Public Prosecution to investigate it and bring the perpetrator before
justice.
