On Saturday, 29 August 2020, a Palestinian civilian was shot and killed, and her sister was wounded due to a gunfire in a wedding ceremony in the center of al-Am’ari refugee camp, southeast of al-Bireh, north of Ramallah.
According to the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights’ (PCHR) investigation, at approximately 18:40 on Saturday, 29 August 2020, Majd Omer Ismail al-Baba (26), was shot with a live bullet in her neck and her sister Hadil (22) was shot with a live bullet in her hand while both were present on their house balcony to watch a wedding ceremony. They were transferred to Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah where Majd was declared dead and her sister’s, Hadil, injury was classified as moderate.
Police sources stated to PCHR’s fieldworker that the police and the Public Prosecution opened investigation into the circumstances of al-Baba’s death and her sister’s injury.
PCHR condemns the continued use of gunfire at occasions and confirms that security services are responsible for prohibiting this phenomenon and holding abusers accountable.
