Unknown Persons Open Fire at Young Man and Wound Him in Khan Younis

On Tuesday, 02 June 2015, unknown persons
opened fire at ‘Abdel Qader subhi Qoshen al-Muzayen (24) and wounded him with
two bullets that penetrated his two legs while he was sitting in front of a
supermarket owned by his family in the Red Cross street in al-Sheikh Naser
neighborhood in Khan Younis. This incident is part of the state of security
chaos and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory
(oPt).

According to investigations conducted by the
Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 21:00 on Tuesday,
02 June 2015, one of two persons wearing a helmet that hid his features on a
motorcycle, grabbed al-Muzayen’s hand while he was sitting in front of a
supermarket belonging to his family and asked for his cell phone. One of the
unknown persons then fired 3 bullets from a pistol at the aforementioned
civilian hitting him with two bullets to his right leg.   The unknown persons then fled the scene. An
ambulance was called and arrived at the scene to take al-Muzayen to Naser
Hospital in Khan Younis to receive medical treatment.  The Palestinian police and security services
arrived at the scene and opened an investigation into the attack, whose reasons
have not been identified yet.

PCHR expresses its concern about the increasing
incidents of security chaos, many of which were attributed to unknown persons.  PCHR also calls upon the Attorney General to
seriously investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. PCHR
stresses the need for the security services to assume their duty to protect the
security of civilians in order to achieve the rule of law, security and respect
for human rights.
