Field Update
On Tuesday, 21 April 2015, gunmen opened fire at young men from the
Sarhan family in Jabalia refugee camp injuring two persons. This incident is part of the security chaos
and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt(
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for
Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 21:10 on Tuesday, 21 April 2015, gunmen
travelling a car opened fire at a number of members of the Sarhan family who
were sitting in front of their house in al-Kholafaa’ al-Rashideen area in
Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip. As a result, two of the family members were
wounded and then taken to Kamal ‘Edwan Hospital in Beit Lahia. The wounded persons were identified as:
1. Ayat
Allah ‘Ali ‘Abdel Karim Sarhan (35) sustained a bullet injury to the right leg
and bruises throughout his body; and
2. Usamah
‘Ali ‘Abdel Karim Sarhan (52) sustained a bullet injury to the left leg and
bullet shrapnel wounds to the thighs in addition to sustaining an incised wound
to the face and bruises throughout his body.
The Palestinian police arrived at the scene, inspected it and took
the wounded persons’ testimpnies. The
persons suspected of the shooting incident were arrested. According to field
investigations and police sources, the shooting incident took place on the
grounds of a family dispute.
PCHR condemns this incident which is part of the state of security
chaos and assaults on the rule of law in the oPt. PCHR calls upon the Attorney
General’s office to investigate into this incident and bring the perpetrators
to justice.
