Two Palestinians Wounded in a Family Dispute in al-Boreij Refugee Camp and One Child Wounded in Explosion of an Unknown Object in Beit Lahia

Field Update

On Wednesday, 21 July 2010, two persons were wounded by
gunshots during the course of a family dispute in al-Boreij refugee camp in the
central Gaza Strip. Another five persons
were injured due to the use of sticks and sharp tools in the dispute. Earlier, one child was wounded due to an
explosion of unknown object in the town of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza
Strip.

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian
Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 13:30 on Wednesday, an
internal dispute erupted among members of the Abu Jbara family in al-Boreij
refugee camp. They used sticks, sharp tools
and guns. As a result, seven members of
the family were wounded, including two who were wounded by gunshots:

1) Iyad Reyad Abu Jbara, 34, wounded in the right thigh; and

2) Mohammed Ahmed Abu Jbara, 21, wounded in the right leg.

The other five who sustained injuries and bruises due to the
use of sticks and sharp tools are:

1) Ahmed Mohammed Abu Jbara, 46;

2) Reyad Ahmed Abu Jbara, 25;

3) Wa’el Riad Abu Jbara, 22;

4) Ahmed Riad Abu Jbara, 21; and

5) ‘Aadel Ahmed Abu Jbara, 18.

The Palestinian police investigated the incident and
arrested some of the family members.

A few hours earlier in Beit Lahia, an unknown object exploded,
severing the middle finger and fracturing another two fingers of Mohammed Abdul
Kareem al-Zain, 14, from Beit Lahia. Mohammad
was wounded while he was collecting plastic, iron and aluminum in an open area
near Hamouda Sharia’ Institute in Beit Lahia.

PCHR is concerned over the recurrence of such incidents,
which are part of the state of security chaos and the misuse of weapons
currently prevailing in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and calls upon the
Attorney-General to seriously investigate the attack and bring the perpetrators
to justice.
