Field Update
On
Monday noon, 28 September 2015, a civilian from Jenin refugee camp was shot
dead in the center of Jenin while another dead body was found last Saturday
with traces of bullets and sharp tools in the woodlands of Bal’aa and
al-‘Atarah villages, northeast of Tulkarm.
These incidents are part of are part of the phenomenon of the
proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied
Palestinian territory (oPt).
According
to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR),
on Monday, 28 September 2015, Mohammed Saleh Mahmoud al-Sa’adi (42) succumbed
to his wounds after being shot in the center of Jenin. Al-Sa’adi, who is a field officer in the
Health Department in the Municipality of Jenin, was near the Grand Mosque in
the center of Jenin when a gunman surprisingly fired several bullets from a gun
at him wounding him with five bullets. A
number of civilians then took the wounded person with a civilian car to al-Razi
Hospital in Jenin, but he died due to severe bleeding. The perpetrator surrendered to the police
while al-Sa’adi’s body was transferred to the Forensic Department.
In
another incident, on Saturday morning, 26 September 2015, the body of Shadi
‘Othman Mohammed ‘Awwad (32), who works in the Palestinian police and from
al-‘Atarah village, south of Jenin, was found in a woodland between the
villages of Bal’aa and al-‘Atarah, northeast of Tulkarm with traces of bullets
in the chest and knife stabs. The body
was transferred to Institute of Forensic Medicine. The victim’s father field a complaint to the
security services about the disappearance of his son 3 days before the
incident. PCHR knew from the security
services that they arrested two persons on suspicion of the involvement in the
murder and transferred them to investigation.
PCHR
stresses that the murder of al-Sa’adi and ‘Awad are part of the state of
proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law and calls upon the
Public Prosecution to open a serious investigation, publish the results on
public and bring perpetrators to justice.
