Three Children Wounded While Playing with Explosive Dbject in Deir al-Balah

Field Update

 

On Wednesday, 08 April 2015, three children sustained wounds that
ranged between moderate and minor due to the explosion of an explosive object
they were playing with in a house yard in al-Salqa village, east of Deir
al-Balah. This incident is part of the state of security chaos, proliferation
of weapons and assaults on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian
territory (oPt).

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for
Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 18:00 on Wednesday, 08 April 2015, three
children were wounded as they played with an explosive object in a house in
al-Salqa village, east of Deir al-Balah. The wounded children were identified
as:

1. Mos’ab
Adnan al-Sawarka (6), who sustained wounds to the face, legs and belly;

2. Ibrahim
Ja’fer al-Sawarka (6), who sustained wounds to the face and left hand; and

3. Hebatu-Allah
Yehya Abu Mashi (6), who sustained wounds to the head and legs.

The three children were taken to al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Hospital in Deir
al-Balah to receive necessary medical treatment.

PCHR condemns this incident and calls upon the Attorney General’s
office to investigate it. PCHR calls also upon competent authorities to take
the necessary measures to protect civilians from the risks of weapons and
explosive objects.
