Unknown persons opened fire early on Wednesday, 15 January 2020, at Talfit Village Counsel Chairman’s vehicle, southeast of Jenin, and set it on fire. PCHR condemns this crime and asserts the need to exert all efforts to hold perpetrators accountable.

According to PCHR investigations, at approximately 01:00 on Wednesday, 15 January 2020, unknown persons opened fire at Raed Fayez Rasheed’s vehicle and set it on fire while parked at his garage. Mr. Rasheed serves as Chairman of the Village Counsel. The bullets penetrated the car’s rear window and it was burnt completely. The assault came after Mr. Rasheed attempted to enforce the law in Talfit and the American University’s dorms, according to his statement, Mr. Rasheed filed a lawsuit against dozens of forms near the American University that are in breach of the law, and had notified 80 facilities of the need to remove encroachments and adhere to the law.

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights condemns the incident which is a flagrant attack on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), and demanded the Public Prosecutor to open a serious investigation into the matter and prosecute perpetrators.
