Field Update
On Wednesday morning, 05 September 2012, an
officer of the Palestinian Preventive Security Service (PSS), was shot dead by
unknown gunmen in the northern West Bank town of Jenin. This attack is part of the state of
proliferation of weapons and assaults against the rule of law prevailing in the
occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the
Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 00:10 on
Wednesday, 05 September 2012, unknown gunmen fired at Colonel Hisham Sami
al-Rukh (41), the Deputy Chief of the PSS in Jenin, while he was traveling by
car towards his house in al-Hadaf housing project in Jenin. He was wounded by 7 bullets, most of which
hit him in the chest. He was evacuated
to the Martyr Khalil Suleiman Hospital, but medical efforts failed to save his
life.
Following this attack, Palestinian security
forces were deployed large numbers in the town.
They arrested a number of suspects.
PCHR condemns this attack, which is part of the
state of proliferation of weapons and assaults against the rule of law
prevailing in the oPt. PCHR calls upon
the Attorney General’s offices to investigate this crime and bring the
perpetrators to justice.
