Today afternoon, a Palestinian succumbed to his injury after being directly shot by gunmen yesterday in the backyard of Dr. Khalil Soliman Governmental Hospital in Jenin.

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) and a footage documenting the crime, at around 20:20 on Monday, 25 July 2022, a Palestinian entered the backyard of Dr. Khalil Soliman Governmental Hospital in Jenin, and he seemed to be running from a car that was chasing him.  Shortly, a white Hyundai civilian car arrived and stopped at the gate.  Three persons in civilian clothes with black masks covering their faces stepped out of the car; one of them was carrying a machine gun and the 2 others were carrying pistols.  Two of them then approached the victim being only few steps away and opened fire at him.  They then stepped back, and the victim hid in a car parked there.  Within only moments, the two gunmen came back and took him out of the car to open fire at him again.  The gunmen withdrew to their Hyundai car with the third gunman inside and fled from the scene.  The victim was then taken by persons in the area to the hospital, where it was found out that he was hit with several bullets in the abdomen and legs and his condition was deemed serious. At around 18:30 on Tuesday, 26 July 2022, he was pronounced dead succumbing to his serious injury.  The victim was later identified as Subeih Mohammed Abu Subeih (31) from Jenin refugee camp.

Colonel Loay Izreqiat, Spokesperson of the Palestinian Police, said in a statement that the young man sustained serious injuries on Monday after being shot in the backyard of Jenin Governmental Hospital, where doctors announced his death today in the afternoon.

Neither the background of the shooting nor the shooters are yet clear.

PCHR is gravely concerned over this crime that reveals the outgrowing phenomenon of security chaos and assault on the rule of law. PCHR calls upon the Public Prosecution and law enforcement authorities to take effective measures in order to end these manifestations and maintain civil peace in the Palestinian society.
