On Tuesday evening, 02 March 2010,
three members of the al-Khaldi family were wounded when they were fired at by a
security officer in al-Boreij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip on the
grounds of a personal dispute.
According to investigations
conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) and according to
statements given by eyewitnesses, at approximately 16:20 on Tuesday, a member
of the al-Namrouti family, who works as a bodyguard of a leader of Hamas, fired
at members of the al-Khaldi family who were near their house in al-Boreij
refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. As a result, three members of the family were wounded: Rami Abdul Rahim
al-Khaldi, 35, wounded to the feet; Wajdi Rasmi al-Khaldi, 24, wounded to the
left elbow; and Mousa Mohammed al-Khaldi, 24, wounded to the right
shoulder. The wounded were evacuated to
al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah town, and medical sources described
their wounds as moderate. The
Palestinian polices arrived at the scene and arrested three members of the
al-Namrouti family for questioning.
According Munther Abdul Rahman
al-Khaldi, 32, the brother of one of the wounded, a dispute erupted between his
brother Rami and the person who opened fire, and his family’s members were
waiting for members of the al-Namrouti family to settle down the dispute. However, they were surprised by a member of
the al-Namrouti family wearing the police uniform who fired at them directly
from a short distance and then ran away.
PCHR strongly condemns this attack
which is part of the state of security chaos and misuse of weapons plaguing the
Occupied Palestinian Territory. PCHR
calls upon the office of the Attorney-General to seriously investigate this attack
and bring the perpetrators to justice.
