Field Update
On Wednesday, 14 October
2012, Salem Salim (24), from al-Shoka village, east of Rafah, was
injured after a home-made rocket landed near his house.
According to investigations
conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), including the victim’s
testimony, at approximately 18:45 on Wednesday, 14 October 2012, Salim was
riding a cart nearly 100 meters away from his house, located in al-Nahda
neighborhood, in al-Shoka village, east of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
He explained, “I
saw fire near me, 10 meters above ground-level, then I heard a loud explosion
before I fainted.” He added that he regained consciousness while in
Abu-Yousif hospital in Rafah, where medical sources confirmed that he had
sustained bruises and burns throughout his body. His wounds were described as moderate.
Police sources informed
PCHR fieldworkers that Salim was injured after a home-made rocket exploded near
him.
PCHR strongly condemns
this crime which is demonstrative of the situation of security chaos which
prevails in the occupied Palestinian territory, in which the rule of law is
repeatedly attacked. PCHR calls upon the
government in Gaza to take the necessary measures to protect the lives of
Palestinian civilians.
