Field Update
Yesterday, a Palestinian civilian was shot dead on grounds of family dispute in Hebron. This incident is part of the proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 13:00 on Saturday, 27 August 2016, Mahmoud Rebhi Abu Sbeih (52), from Um al-Daliyah neighborhood, south of Hebron, was hit with a live bullet to his chest by his relative whom was holding a gun after a family dispute erupted between both of them. As a result, Abu Sbeih was taken to al-Ahli Hospital in the city, but less than an hour later, Mahmud was pronounced dead.
PCHR learnt that security services arrived at the scene and deployed in the area in case of any retaliatory actions. They further arrested the suspect along with four others.
PCHR condemns the killing of Abu Sbeih and is deeply concerned over the increasing number of victims due to using firearms. PCHR calls also upon the competent authorities to take the necessary measures to stop this phenomenon and maintain the civilians’ security and safety.
