Palestinian Shot Dead by Unknown Gunmen in Hebron

Field Update

On Tuesday morning, 28 January 2020, Nael ‘Abdel Fattah Dawoud ‘Aweiwi (50) from Hebron was and killed by unknown gunmen in southern Hebron.  This incident falls under the state of proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 11:00 on Tuesday, 28 January 2020, gunmen attacked a butchery and housewares shops belonging to ‘Aweiwi Family near Tareq Bin Ziyad Intersection, south of Hebron.  They randomly opened fire and wounded Nael ‘Aweiwi with several bullets.  He was taken to Mohammed ‘Ali al-Mohtaseb Hospital in southern Hebron, where he was pronounced dead, and then referred to al-Ahli Hospital in the City.  Following the shooting, a Palestinian security force arrived at the scene and opened an investigation into the incident.

Following this crime, unknown gunmen opened fire at many shops in Hebron.

PCHR condemns this incident and considers it an outrageous attack on the rule of law in the oPt; and calls upon the Public Prosecution to open a serious investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
