Field Update
On Thursday, 02
September 2010, Yousef ‘Omar, from al-Jaroushiya village, north of Tulkarm, was
killed as he was fired at by his son in the context of a familial dispute. This incident is a part of security chaos and
misuse of weapons plaguing the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).
According to
investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at
approximately 13:00 on Thursday, 02 September 2010, Yousef ‘Izzat ‘Omar, 61,
from al-Jaroushiya village, north of Tulkarm, was killed by two bullets fired
by his eighteen-year-old son in the context of a familial dispute. Hassan, the son, turned himself to the police
and an investigation was opened into the incident. Forensic doctor Samir Abu Za’arour reported
that ‘Omar was killed by two bullets fired at his chest and neck from a range
not exceeding two meters.
PCHR strongly
condemns the use of weapons in familial disputes, which is part of the security
chaos and misuse of weapons plaguing the OPT, and calls upon competent
authorities to take measures in order to put an end to such incidents.
