Field Update
The Palestinian Medical
Relief Office, which is located west of Gaza, was stormed and robbed by
unidentified persons last Wednesday. This attack reflects the state of
security, chaos, and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian
territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the
Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR),at approximately 06:30 on Wednesday,
31 January 2013, when staff members arrived at the office, which is located in
Abu ‘Aof building, west of Gaza, they
found that the office was stormed and robbed by unidentified persons. They notified the police which arrived at the
location and opened an investigation, in which it was found that the main
entrance was broken and 2 computer sets were stolen.
It is worth noting that this attack has been the third of its kind
this month, as on 29 January 2013, the
sub-office of Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights in Jabalya refugee camp in the
north of the Gaza Strip was stormed and robbed by unidentified persons, and
on 16th January 2013, the office of
Aisha Association for Woman and Child Protection in Gaza City was also robbed.
PCHR
condemns this incident which is demonstrative of the state of security chaos
and continuous violations of the rule of law in the oPt, and calls upon the
Attorney General’s office to investigate the incident and prosecute the
perpetrators.
