Palestinian Killed in Jabaliya

Field Update

On the morning of Wednesday, 28 April 2010, medical sources
in el-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City announced the death of Mahmoud Ahmed
el-Masri, 21, from Jabaliya refugee camp in the north of the Gaza Strip.
El-Masri died from wounds he sustained when he was targeted by unknown gunmen
two days earlier.

El-Masri was wounded on Monday, 26 April 2010, by seven
bullets to his legs. Masked men fired at
him when he was standing in front of his home. A passerby, Jihad Mostafa ‘Afana, 22, was also wounded by a bullet to
the stomach; he sustained moderate wounds. El-Masri was taken to Kamal ‘Odwan hospital in Beit Lahiya and then to
el-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City. Medical
sources announced that he sustained critical wounds and suffered from a large
amount of bleeding because arteries and veins had been severed. El-Masri was
scheduled to be transferred to a hospital in Israel on Tuesday morning;
however, he died at approximately 6:00 of that day.

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) has been
informed that the police have launched an investigation regarding this crime
and arrested a number of suspects.

PCHR strongly condemns this incident, which constitutes part
of the state of security chaos and misuse of weapons prevailing in the Occupied
Palestinian Territory. PCHR further
calls upon the Attorney-General’s office to seriously investigate the killing
and bring the perpetrators to justice.
