Field Update
On Sunday, 21
October 2012, Abdullah Khalil Islayeh, 40, from Khan Yunis, was killed
as a result of being shot by unknown gunmen.
This incident demonstrates the situation of
security chaos which prevails in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to the findings of an investigation
conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately
16:30 on Sunday, 21 October 2012, a white Kia car intercepted Islayeh as he was
sitting in his white BMW car on Salah al-Din Street near al-Qarara village in
Khan Yunis. A gunman stepped out of the
first car and fired a number of bullets at Islayeh, hitting him in the chest and
neck. Following the attack, the gunman
fled the scene. Some time later,
Palestinian police arrived at the crime scene and opened an investigation. The wounded man was immediately transferred
to Nasser Hospital, where he received medical treatment. However, the victim was later pronounced dead.
PCHR strongly
condemns this crime which is demonstrative of the situation of security chaos
which prevails in the oPt, in which the rule of law is repeatedly
attacked. PCHR calls upon Attorney
General to investigate this incident, prosecute the perpetrators and bring them
to justice. PCHR also calls upon the
government in Gaza to take the necessary measures to protect the lives of
Palestinian civilians.
