On
Monday, 22 October 2012, Khalil Awad-Allah al-Kafarna (21), from Beit Hanoun in
the northern Gaza Strip, was killed after a home-made rocket landed near his
house. This incident demonstrates the
situation of security chaos which prevails in the occupied Palestinian
territory (oPt).
According to the findings of an investigation
conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately
15:50 on Monday, 22 October 2012, Khalil al-Kafarna sustained severe shrapnel
wounds after a home-made rocket landed near him while he was walking in the al-Madakha
area, north of Beit Hanoun, in the northern Gaza Strip. Al-Kafarna was immediately transferred to
Beit Hanoun Governmental Hospital, where he was treated for shrapnel wounds in
the abdomen and pelvis and his right arm was amputated. He was then moved to al-Shifa Hospital in
Gaza due to his critical condition. However, he was pronounced
dead at approximately 19:30 on Monday evening.
Police sources informed PCHR fieldworkers
that al-Kafarna was injured after a home-made rocket that had been launched by
members of a Palestinian resistance group exploded near him.
PCHR strongly condemns this crime which
is demonstrative of the situation of security chaos which prevails in the oPt,
in which the rule of law is repeatedly attacked. PCHR calls upon the
government in Gaza to take the necessary measures to protect the lives of
Palestinian civilians.
