Palestinian Killed and Seven Wounded, Including Three Wounded By Gunshots, During Family Dispute in Gaza City

Field Update


On Thursday, 5 August 2010, Ayman Hajjaj was killed and another
seven members of his family were wounded, including three ones who were wounded
by gunshots, during a family dispute with al-Dairi family. The dispute took place in al-Zaitoun
neighborhood in the southeast of Gaza City. This incident is part of the state of security chaos and misuse of
weapons currently prevailing in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT).

 

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian
Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 20:30 on Thursday, 5 August 2010, a dispute erupted
between two persons; one of them is from the Hajjaj family driving a Mercedes
car and the other one is from al-Dairi family riding a cart. It erupted after a car accident in Zaitoun
neighborhood in the southeast of Gaza City. The two parties called members of their families and the dispute developed,
as guns and sharp tools were used. As a
result, Ayman Deeb Hajjaj, 19, from al-Shuja’iya neighborhood in the east of
Gaza City, was killed by a bullet to the head. Besides, another seven members of the Hajjaj family were wounded,
including three ones who were wounded by bullets. They are:

 

  1. Wadee’ Mohammed Hajjaj, 16,
    wounded by a bullet to the left shoulder;
  2. Nedal Fares Hajjaj, 20, wounded
    by a bullet to the right hand;
  3. Ghassan Khaled Hajjaj, 30,
    wounded by a bullet to the right shoulder;
  4. Qasem Ali Hajjaj, 19, wounded
    in the stomach by a sharp tool. Medical sources described his wounds as serious;
  5. Ashraf Khaled Hajjaj, 45,
    wounded in the chest and head by a sharp tool;
  6. Dergham Ali Hajjaj, 23, wounded
    in the side by a sharp tool; and
  7. Amjad Adeeb Hajjaj, 19, wounded
    in the stomach and limbs by a sharp tool.

 

The wounded were transported to Shifa hospital in Gaza City
for medical treatment. Medical sources
described their wounds as moderate. The
Palestinian police arrived, ended the dispute, arrested many members of the two
families and initiated an investigation in the incident.

 

PCHR is concerned over using weapons in family disputes,
which is part of the state of security chaos and misuse of weapons currently
prevailing in the (OPT) and calls upon the Attorney-General to seriously
investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
