Field Update
Yesterday, a
Palestinian was killed and four others were Injured due to an Explosion that occurred
in the house of the Secretary-General of the Popular Resistance Committees
(PRC) in Rafah. This incident is a part of the state of security
chaos and misuse of weapons prevalent in the occupied Palestinian territory
(oPt).
According to
investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at
approximately 18:00 on Saturday, 14 January 2012, a heavy explosion rocked the
house of Zoheir al-Qaisi, Secretary-General of PRC, that is located near the
Ibad al-Rahman Mosque in al-Junaina neighborhood in Rafah, which is a densely
populated civilian area. The explosion
resulted from the preparation of explosives, due to which, a member of PRC was
killed and four other members were moderately injured. The wounded persons were transported to Abu
Yusef al-Najjar Hospital to receive the necessary medical treatment. However, they refused to provide the hospital
or police with any information about the explosion. PRC stated on its website that one of its
members named Khaled Jamal al-Qaisi, 38, was killed in a Jihad mission.
The police initiated
an investigation and confirmed that the preliminary results had indicated that
the explosion occurred due to the preparation of explosives inside the house of
the Secretary-General of PRC, but the police have not confirmed the identity of
the person who was killed yet.
PCHR is
concerned over this incident that is a part of the state of misuse of weapons
and violations of the rule of law in oPt.
PCHR calls upon resistance groups to take the necessary measures to
prevent the storage of explosives and weapons in densely populated civilian
areas to keep the safety and security of civilians.
