Palestinian Civilian Killed and 4 Others Injured in Family Dispute, and Woman and Child Injured by Home-Made Rocket in Beit Hanoun

Field Update

 

 

A Palestinian civilian was killed and 4 others were injured due to the
use of firearms in a family dispute in al-Zawaida village in the central Gaza
Strip. Moreover, a woman and a female child sustained shrapnel injuries due to
the explosion of a home-made rocket in Beit Hanoun town in the northern Gaza
Strip.  These incidents are part of the
state of security chaos and proliferation of weapons prevailing in the Occupied
Palestinian Territory. 

 


According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for
Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 19:00 on Saturday, 14 June 2014, a family
dispute erupted between members of the Abu Halhoul family in al-Zawaida village
in the central Gaza Strip. The dispute developed into using firearms. As a
result Shareef Abdullah Abu Halhoul (32) was killed with a bullet to the chest.
Another 4 person were injured in the dispute:

1. Ashraf Abdullah Abu Halhoul (35) who
sustained injuries to his right leg;

2. Abdul Moa’ti Yehia Abu Halhoul (34) who sustained
a serious injury;

3. Jihad Mousa Abu Halhoul 925) who
sustained moderate injuries to his right shoulder; and

4. Mohammed Yusif Abu Halhoul (32) who sustained
a moderate injury.

 

The four injured persons were taken to al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in
Deir el-Balah to receive the necessary medical treatment. Two of them were
later transferred to Shifa Hospital due to their serious injuries. The
Palestinian police arrived and initiated an investigation into the incident.

 

In a separate incident, a woman and a female child sustained
shrapnel injuries due to the explosion of a home-made rocket.  At approximately 17:15 on Saturday, 14 June
2014, a home-made rocket landed on a house belonging to the family of Abdullah Ahmed
Abu Ghazal in al-Ghizlan neighborhood in the west of Beit Hanoun town in the
northern Gaza Strip. The rocket caused heavy damage to the house and a nearby
house.  As a result, Mahasen Ibrahim Aby
Ghazal (21) sustained shrapnel injuries to the shoulder, back, and feet, while
Alia Jalal Abu Ghazal (15) sustained shrapnel injuries to her feet. They were
taken to Beit Hanoun Hospital to receive necessary medical treatment and were then
transferred to Kamal Odwan Hospital in Beit Lahia. The Palestinian police
arrived at the area and initiated an investigation into the incident.

 

PCHR strongly condemns these incidents which are part of the state
of security chaos and proliferation of weapons in the occupied Palestinian territory,
and calls upon the Attorney General to seriously investigate this incident and
bring the perpetrators before justice.
