Field Update
Yesterday
afternoon, Salama Ramadan al-Nabahin, 28, from al-Boreij refugee camp in the
central Gaza Strip, was shot dead by a relative of him. In another incident, two members of an armed
group were shot and injured by security forces in the southern Gaza Strip town
of Khan Yunis. The Palestinian Center
for Human Rights (PCHR) calls for investigating these two incidents and bring
the perpetrators to justice.
According
to investigations conducted by PCHR, at approximately 14:30 on Monday, 30
August 2010, Salam al-Nabahin was evacuated to al-Aqsa Martys Hospital in the
central Gaza Strip town of Deir al-Balah, as he was wounded by 3 bullets to the
shoulder, the back and the foot. He was
soon pronounced dead. The police opened
an investigation into the crime. This
killing was apparently motivated by a dispute in the al-Nabahin family, which
broke out in 1994. In the context of
such dispute, in 2006, the victim’s brother, Ra’ed Ramadan al-Nabahin, was
killed by his cousins.
In
another incident, two members of an armed group were shot and injured by
security forces in Khan Yunis.
According
to investigations conducted by PCHR, at approximately 17:50 on Monday, a
conflict erupted between a number of militants and two Palestinian security
offices in the east of al-Qarara village, north of Khan Yunis. The conflict developed the militants
kidnapped one of the security officers and took him to the west of the
village. Security forces pursued the
militants and fired at their car. As a
result, two militants were injured. One
of them was able to reach Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis. He was injured by a bullet to the leg. Security forces detained him.
PCHR
strongly condemns these two incidents, which are part of the state of security
chaos and misuse of weapons prevailing in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,
and calls upon the Attorney-General to investigate them and bring the
perpetrators to justice.
