Field Update
On Wednesday, 28 July 2010, Taiseer
Dhair was wounded as a result of gunfire during a wedding party in the town of
Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. This
incident is part of the state of security chaos and misuse of weapons currently
plaguing the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT).
According to investigations
conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately
22:30 on Wednesday, 28 July 2010, Taiseer Bakr ‘Elayan Dhair, 14, was admitted
into Abu Yousef al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip after he
was wounded by a bullet to the left leg. Dhair was wounded by gunfire from an unknown gunman in the wedding party
of Dhair’s relative, Abed Rabbu ‘Odwan. The party was held in ‘Awni Dhair street in al-Junaina neighborhood in
Rafah. Later, Dhair was transferred to
European Gaza hospital, where medical sources described his wounds as moderate.
PCHR is concerned over the increase
of incidents related to gunfire in parties recently, after they had decreased
in the past two years. PCHR calls upon
the Attorney-General to seriously investigate such incidents and bring
perpetrators to justice.
