Field Update
This morning, the sub-office of Al-Mezan
Center for Human Rights in Jabalya refugee camp in the north of the Gaza Strip
was stormed and robbed by unidentified persons.
This attack reflects the state of security, chaos, and assault on the
rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by
the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) Mr. Hussein Hammad, director of
the sub-office, states in his testimony that at approximately 07:45 hours, when
staff members arrived at the office, which is located near Jawwal Mobile Phone
Company in the center of Jabalya refugee camp, they found that the window of
its main entrance was broken. When they
checked the office, they discovered that two computer sets, a computer screen
and a printer were stolen. They notified
the police which arrived at the location and opened an investigation.
It is worth noting that this attack has
been the second of its kind this month, as on 16th January 2013, the
office of Aisha Association for Woman and Child Protection in Gaza City was
also robbed.
PCHR condemns these incidents, and calls
upon the Attorney General’s office to seriously investigate them and bring the
perpetrators to justice.
