Field Update

On Wednesday, 06 May 2015, a girl from al-Zaytoun neighborhood in
the east of Gaza City sustained shrapnel wounds to the hand and leg, when she
was playing with a suspicious object in front of her house.
Two of her fingers were also cut. This incident is part of the phenomenon of
the proliferation of weapons in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for
Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 12:00 on Wednesday, 06 May 2015, Do’aa’
‘Alaa’ Sa’di Yasin (11) was wounded by the explosion of a suspicious object she
was playing with in front of her house in al-Zaytoun neighborhood in Gaza.  As a result, two of her right hand fingers
were amputated, and she sustained shrapnel wounds to the hand and right
leg.  Tamer ‘Alaa’ Yasin Shaqiq, brother
of the wounded girl, said that his sister, Do’aa’, went to a field belonging to
the family in front of the house to play after she came back from school.  She found a suspicious object and played with
it in front of the house.  As a result,
it exploded, and she was wounded.

According to PCHR’s investigations, Do’aa’ was wounded by the
explosion of the remnants of a home-made bomb fuse.

PCHR strongly condemns this incident and calls upon the Attorney General’s
office to open an investigation into the incident.  PCHR also calls upon the competent
authorities to take necessary measures to protect the lives of Palestinian
civilians from the dangers of weapons and explosive objects.
