Four Persons, Including a Child, Injured in Rafah Accident

Field Update

 

During the past three days, four persons, including a child,
were injured in four separate incidents related to the misuse of weapons, all
of which occurred in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah.

 

According to investigations conducted by PCHR, at
approximately 04:00 on Monday, 12 July 2010, Jihad ‘Abed Rabbu ‘Edwan, 21, was
admitted into Abu Yousef al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah after he was injured by a
bullet to the right foot. According to
Palestinian police sources, Mr. ‘Edwan was injured when he and other members of
his family were attempting to control a cow that was fleeing towards al-Junaina
neighbourhood. Some persons involved opened fire at the cow, but Mr. ‘Edwan was
injured by mistake.

 

At approximately 19:45 on Sunday, 11 July 2010, Sabri
Mohammed Madhi, 63, from al-Junaina neighbourhood, was admitted into Abu Yousef
al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah after he was injured by a bullet to the neck. According to police sources, Mr. Madhi was
injured by an unintended bullet from an unknown source.

 

Earlier on Sunday, at approximately 19:15, Karam Jamal Abu
Roumi, 11, from al-Shaboura refugee camp in Rafah, was injured by a bullet to
the right thigh. According to the
child’s father, he was injured when he was playing near his grandfather’s house
in al-Brazil neighbourhood and he was hit by a bullet from an unknown
source. The police opened an
investigation into the incident.

 

At approximately 19:30 on Friday, 09 July 2010, Khaled
Zuhair al-Mughayar, 33, was admitted into Abu Yousef al-Najjar Hospital after
he was injured by a bullet to the left shoulder. According to Mr. al-Mughayer, he was hit by a
bullet from an unknown source when he was on the roof of his house in Yibna
refugee camp turning on an electricity generator. The police opened an investigation into the
incident.

 

PCHR is concerned over the recurrence of such incidents,
which are part of the state of security chaos plaguing the Occupied Palestinian
Territory. PCHR calls upon the
Palestinian National Authority, represented by the Attorney-General, to
investigate such incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.
