Palestinian and His Wife Killed by Bullets in al-Bureij Refugee Camp in Central Gaza

On
Tuesday morning, 12 December 2011, Mustafa al-Hweihy and his wife, Salima al-Hweihy,
were killed by their son while they were in their home in al-Bureiij refugee
camp in the central Gaza strip. This incident is part of the state of security
case and violation of the rule of law prevalent in the occupied Palestinian
territory (oPt).

 

According
to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR)
the testimony of ‘Arafat al-Hweihy, 29, the victims’ son, at approximately
11:00 on Monday, 12 December 2011, the bodies Mustafa Abdel Khaliq al-Hweihy,
62, and his wife, Salima Hussny al-Hweihy, 60, from al-Bureij refugee camp,
were brought to al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.
 The two victims were hit by bullets to
their heads. Their bodies were transferred to forensic examination at Shifa
Hospital in Gaza City. According to ’Arafat al-Hweihy’s testimony to a PCHR
fieldworker, he knew about the incident when he received a phone call from his
friend who works as a driver telling him that he transported his brother, Samer
al-Hweihy, 21, to the tunnels area in Rafah town in the south of Gaza strip. Samer
informed the driver that he killed his parents at home. ‘Arafat then went home and
found his parents’ bodies on the ground with a Kalashnikov rifle next to them.

 

The
police arrived at the house, checked the place and initiated an investigation
into the incident.

 

PCHR
strongly condemns this crime which is part of the state of security chaos and
violation of the rule of law prevalent in the oPt. PCHR calls upon the Public
Prosecution to reveal the circumstances of the crime and to bring the perpetrators
before justice.
