Four Civilians Wounded, including Two Siblings in Serious Condition, During Family Dispute

On Saturday, 28 October 2017, four civilians, including two siblings in serious condition, were hit with live bullets during a family dispute, in which firearms were used, in al-Nusirat refugee camp. This incident is part of the state of proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 20:00 on Saturday, 28 October 2017, a family dispute erupted between 2 families, in which firearms were used, in al-Nusirat Camp. As a result, 4 civilians were wounded; 2 of whom are siblings currently staying in the in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to their serious health condition.   The third wounded person sustained moderate wounds while the forth one sustained minor wounds and was arrested by the police. All of them were taken to al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah to receive medical treatment. The wounded persons were identified as:

  • M. GH, (28), was hit with 2 live bullets to the head and thigh and is staying now in the ICU;
  • M. GH, (25), was hit with a live bullet to the abdomen and stays now in the ICU;
  • KH. Q, (22), was hit with a live bullet to the right leg; and
  • KH. Q, (26) was hit with a live bullet to the right foot and was then arrested by the police.

 

PCHR condemns this incident and is concerned over the increasing number of victims due to the use of firearms. Moreover, PCHR calls upon the competent authorities to take the necessary measures to put an end to the proliferation of weapons and to maintain the safety and security of civilians.
