Young Man Killed with Live Bullet in Central Gaza Strip

Yesterday, 27 September 2017, a Palestinian young man was killed with a live bullet inside his house in al-Maghazi refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. This incident is part of the state of the proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

According to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR’s) investigations, at approximately 15:20 on Wednesday, 27 September 2017, Tareq Fayaz Khadourah (19) from al-Maghazi arrived at al-Aqsa Hospital  in Deir al-Balah after being hit with a live bullet to the abdomen.  He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and an hour later, the hospital announced his death. Jom’ah Khadourah, Tareq’s uncle, said to PCHR’s fieldworker that his nephew was hit with a live bullet while he was cleaning his Kalashnikov inside his house. He was then transferred to the hospital, which announced his death.

Ayman al-Batniji, Spokesperson of the Palestinian Police in Gaza, said on the Ministry of Interior’s Website that the police opened an urgent investigation into the incident circumstances.

PCHR closely follows up the investigations into the incident and calls upon the competent authorities to take all necessary measures to maintain the safety and security of civilians from the danger of weapons.
