Gunmen Shoot a Preventive Security Officer and a Child in Beach Camp

This morning, unknown assailants shot an officer in the Preventive Security Apparatus in Beach Camp, injuring him and a child who was nearby.

PCHR’s initial investigation indicates that on the morning of Sunday, 14 May 2006, unknown assailants shot Fahed Abu El-Amrein, 25, near his house in Beach Camp, Gaza City, before fleeing the scene.  Abu El-Amrein, who is an officer in the Preventive Security Apparatus, was hit by bullets to the legs.  In addition, Mohammad Abu El-Sebah, 14, was hit by a bullet to the chest.  Both were taken to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, where Abu El-Amrien’s injuries were described as moderate and the child’s condition as serious.  Afterwards, a force from the Preventive Security took Abu El-Amrein to the Al-Quds Hospital in the Tal El-Hawa Quarter, near the headquarters of the Preventive Security in Gaza City.

PCHR strongly condemns this assault, which is part of the security chaos currently plaguing the Occupied Palestinian Territory.  The Centre calls upon the Palestinian National Authority, represented by the Attorney-General, to investigate these attacks and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
