A Palestinian Woman Killed by a Member of the Preventive Security Service in Ramallah
On Thursday, 25 September 2008, Iman Salim Barabra (44), a member of the National Security Service, from Beitoonia near Ramallah was killed when a member of the Preventive Security Service fired at her on the background of personal dispute.
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) and quotes from eyewitnesses, at about 11:30 am on 25 September 2008, a gunmen in civil clothes stepped down from a Preventive Security Service vehicle and fired at Iman Barabra while she was standing near a clothing store on al-Barid St. in Ramallah. Barabra was wounded by several bullets in different places of her body. She was taken to hospitals but she was pronounced dead shortly later. The Military Intelligence Service announced they captured the suspected person. According to PCHR investigations, Barabra caused a traffic accident with the father of the suspected person one day before the firing incident but she denied her responsibility during investigations by the police. Barabra was threatened to death and she informed the security service.
PCHR strongly condemns this crime that is a part of the a continuation of the ongoing security chaos and misuse of weapons in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) and calls upon conducting serious investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.
