Unknown Persons Have Detonated an Explosive Device in Front of a Fatah Leader’s House in Rafah

On Monday morning, 29 April 2013,
unknown persons have detonated an explosive device in front of the garage of a
house belonging to Munther Ghazi al-Bardawil, the Secretary of Fatah Movement
in Rafah.  The garage is located on the
ground floor of his house; minor damages were inflicted on the house and the
car as a result of the explosion.  This
incident is part of the security chaos, misuse of weapons and assaults on the
rule of law that currently prevail in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

 

According to investigations
conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately
02:00 on Monday, 29 April 2013, some unknown persons detonated an explosive
device that was placed in front of the garage of a house belonging toMunther
al-Bardawil, the Secretary of Fatah Movement in Rafah, in al-Junina
neighborhood in Rafah.  As a result of
the explosion, some minor material damagewas inflicted on  the car, as well as the entrance of the
garage and the house windows.  Members of
the police and Internal Security Service (ISS) arrived at the scene, examined
it and conducted various preliminary investigations.  According to sources of the police, they
opened an investigation to the incident, arrested a number of Fatah members in
the area and thensubjected them to interrogation in the ISS offices before
releasing them.

 

It should be mentioned that a
similar incident took place approximately 10 days ago, on 19 April 2013, as
unknown persons set fire to the car of Mahmoud Hussain, the former Secretary of
Fatah Movement in Rafah, inflicting material damage to it.

 

PCHR strongly condemns this attack,
which is part of the state of security chaos and misuse of weapons in the oPt,
and calls upon the Attorney General to investigate it and bring the perpetrator
before justice.
