Field
Update

On
Tuesday, 31 March 2015, unknown persons burnt a car parked in al-Jalaa’ Street
in the center of Gaza City.  There were
explosive devices inside the car that exploded due to the blaze.  No casualties were reported.  This incident is part of the phenomenon of
the proliferation of weapons and assaults on the rule of law in the occupied
Palestinian territory (oPt).

According
to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR),
at approximately 22:30 on Tuesday, 31 March 2015, fire broke out in a civilian
car without a registration plate parked in front of al-Jalaa’ Building in Gaza
City.  As a result, the car was
completely burnt, and neither causalities nor damages were reported.  Security forces and a Civil Defense force
headed to the scene and extinguished the fire.
According to the field investigations, small explosions were heard from
inside the car while burning, and a large explosive device was found in the car
before it exploded.

Ayman
al-Batniji, spokesperson of the Palestinian police, stated that the owner of
the car was not identified.  The
investigations are still ongoing to identify the owner and if the incident was a
criminal act or an accident.

PCHR
is strongly concerned over this incident, which is part of the assaults on the
rule of law in the oPt and calls upon the Attorney General to open a serious
investigation into it and publish the results.
