Child Killed in Explosion in Deir al-Balah

 

Field Update

Yesterday evening, 23 April 2019, a child was killed after being hit with shrapnel throughout his body as a result of an explosion in his house in Deir al-Balah. This is part of state of the proliferation of weapons and the assault of the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 16:00 on Tuesday, 23 April 2019, Mohanned Amin al-Baz (13) arrived a dead body at al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah after being hit with shrapnel to the head and throughout the head as a result of an explosion in his house in Deir al-Balah. The police headed to the area, examined the scene and opened investigation into the incident. The dead body was referred to the Forensic Medicine at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Ayman al-Batniji, Spokesperson of the police mentioned at the Ministry of Interior’s Facebook page that “Mohanned Amin al-Baz (13) killed by an explosive device while mishandling it in his house on Tuesday afternoon, 23 April 2019, in his house in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.

PCHR notes with concern the increasing number of causalities due to the use and mishandling of weapons and calls upon the competent authorities to take the necessary measures to protect the civilians from the danger of weapons.
