Civilian Killed in Family Revenge in Gaza City

 

Field Update

 

On Tuesday evening, a civilian was shot dead by unknown persons, which is considered part of the state of the proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt).

 

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 23:00 on Tuesday, 09 October 2018, (M. M. D.), 33, a police officer from al-Sabra neighborhood in Gaza City, was shot dead by unknown persons while driving his car in the neighborhood. The Forensic Medicine Department at al-Shifa Hospital said to PCHR’s fieldworker that the victim was hit with a live bullet to the abdomen, which resulted in the killing of him immediately.

 

Ayman al-Batniji, Spokesperson of the Palestinian Police in Gaza, said to PCHR’s fieldworker that (M. M. D.) was killed on the ground of a family revenge and the police arrested some of his accused relatives and then questioned them.

 

PCHR condemns the killing of (M. M. D.) and calls upon the competent authorities to take the necessary measures to put an end to the proliferation of weapons and to maintain the safety and security of civilians.
