Field Update  

A Palestinian civilian was killed yesterday in al-Ein refugee camp near Nablus while two others were wounded, one of whom was seriously wounded, by unknown persons in Nablus city. This is considered part of the state of proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 23:00 on Tuesday, 22 November 2016, unknown persons opened fire at a jeep on al-Quds Street adjacent to Balatah refugee camp, east of Nablus. As a result, Ja’fer Tayseer Sobhi Mabrouk (24), from al-Ein refugee camp, west of Nablus, was killed by three bullets to the chest, left thigh and right hand. Moreover, Manar Monther Yasser Hawash (24), from Ras al-Ein neighborhood, south of the city, sustained over 5 bullet wounds to the pelvis, due to which he has been staying in Rafidiya Hospital’s intensive care unit in the city. It should be noted that Manar was driving the jeep. In addition, Ahmed Riyadh Mostafa Abu Issa (23), from al-Quds Street, east of the city, sustained shrapnel wounds throughout the body.

Lieutenant Colonel Lo’ay Ezraiqat, the Palestinian Police spokesperson, said the police was informed of a dispute in Balatah refugee camp, due to which a house was burnt and gunfire was heard. He added that a Palestinian vehicle with three persons inside was then exposed to gunfire from unknown source on al-Quds Street, east of Nablus. As a result, a young man was killed and two others sustained moderate to serious wounds.

PCHR condemns the crime and calls upon the Attorney General to seriously investigate the incident and publish the results. PCHR is further concerned over the increasing number of victims resulting from the use of firearms and calls upon the competent authorities to take the necessary measures to put an end to the proliferation of weapons and to keep the safety of civilians.
