Citizen Shot Dead in al-Thaheriyah Village, South of Hebron

 Field Update

On Wednesday morning, 17 July 2019, a citizen was shot dead with a live bullet in al-Thaheriyah village, south of Hebron, falling within the state of the proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 10:00 on Wednesday, 17 July 2019, a person opened fire at Mohammed ‘Ali al-Rajoub (65), who was in a livestock market, west of al-Thaheriyah village. As a result, al-Rajoub was taken to Al-Ahli Hospital in Hebron where he succumbed to his wounds. It should be noted that al-Rajoub, from Karisah village in Dura, south of Hebron, forcibly left his village 30 years ago due to an old family revenge.

On his Facebook page, the police spokesperson, Lu’ay Erzieqat, said that the person suspected of killing al-Rajoub surrendered to the security services, which kept the murder weapon. Erzieqat added that the General Investigation Service and Public Prosecution opened an investigation into the incident.

PCHR is deeply concerned over the increasing number of casualties due to the misuse of weapons and calls upon the competent authorities to prosecute those responsible for committing such incidents and take the necessary action to guarantee civilians’ integrity.
