Citizen Killed and Two Injured during a Clan Dispute

Riziq El-Sayyed Sa’id Filfil, a 37-year-old from the Zaytoon neighbourhood of Gaza City, was killed and his brother was injured, when gunmen fired at them during a clan dispute.

PCHR’s initial investigation indicates that at approximately 11:40 on Tuesday, 28 February 2006, gunmen fired at Filfil, killing him instantly.  His brother, Ahmad (40), was injured in the incident.  Medical sources at Shifa Hospital stated that the Riziq Filfil was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.  His death was caused by bullet wounds to the chest and head.  Ahmad Filfil’s condition was classified as moderate.  He had been hit by bullets to the right arm and left leg.

The gunmen also beat two other members of the Filfil clan.  They beat the wife of the dead man, who sustained several cuts in her head as a result.  They inflicted similar injuries on Mohammad Ahmad Filfil.  Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

PCHR expresses concern over the continuation of internal violence, including the use of weapons in clan and personal disputes.  This is part of the ongoing internal security chaos and proliferation of arms in the OPT.  The Centre reiterates its call to the Palestinian National Authority, represented by the Attorney-General, to investigate these crimes and to bring the perpetrators to justice.
