Field Update
On Friday, 17 May 2013, a child was killed in a
family quarrel in al-Boreij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. This incident is part of the phenomenon of
the misuse of weapons and violations of the rule of law in the occupied
Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the
Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 21:00 on Friday,
17 May 2013, a family quarrel erupted in al-Boreij refugee camp, during which a
person fired into the air in an attempt to end the quarrel. As a result, 13-year-old Basma Nasser
Mohammed Saleh, who was in the balcony on her house, was wounded by a bullet to
the head. She was evacuated to al-Aqsa
Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, where she was pronounced dead.
The police arrived at the scene arrested the
person who fired into the air.
PCHR condemns this incident which is part of
the phenomenon of the misuse of weapons and violations of the rule of law in
the oPt, and calls upon the Attorney General to seriously investigate it and
bring the perpetrator before justice.
