Field update
On Saturday morning, 13 July 2013, Yousef Shadi Darweesh (3) died
of his wounds he had sustained on Friday by a bullet fired from an unknown
source in al-Nussairat refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip. This incident is
part of the state of proliferation of weapons and assaults on the rule of law
in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for
Human Right (PCHR), at approximately 01:15 on Saturday, 13 July 2013, medical
sources pronounced Yusef Shadi Darweesh (3) dead of his wounds in Shifa Hospital
in Gaza City. At approximately 22:45 on Friday, 12 July 2013, Darweesh was
wounded by a bullet to the head fired from an unknown source while playing with
his relatives in the yard of his family’s house in al-NusSairat refugee camp in
the central Gaza Strip. Darweesh was immediately taken to al-Aqsa Martyrs’ hospital
in Deir al-Balah. He was then referred to Shifa Hospital due to the seriousness
of his injury.
Palestinian police sources stated to a PCHR fieldworker that the corpse
was examined by the coroner. It was found out that the child was hit by a
bullet to the head fired from a pistol. The same sources added that they opened
an investigation in the incident.
PCHR strongly condemns this incident which is part of the state of
proliferation of weapons and assaults on the rule of law in the oPt. PCHR also calls upon the Attorney General to
publish the investigation’s results and prosecute the perpetrators.
