Update

On
Monday, 24 August 2015, Emad Mohammed Mahmoud Dweikat (11) was pronounced dead
as he succumbed to wounds he sustained 2 weeks ago in a wedding party in Iraq
al-Tayeh village, southeast of Nablus. This incident is part of the state of
misuse of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian
territory (oPt).

Dweikat
and another person sustained bullet wounds on Wednesday, 12 August 2015, when
they were participating in a wedding party in Araq al-Tayeh village, southeast
of Nablus. Bullets flied out of a gun belonging to one of the attendants and
hit both of them. As a result, Dweikat was wounded by a bullet that entered
from the back and exited the forehead. His health condition was serious.
Moreover, Azmi Fathi Khadeir Jouda (53) sustained shrapnel wounds to the legs,
but his wounds were minor. The 2 wounded persons were taken to Rafidya Hospital
in Nablus, but Dweikat was transferred to a hospital in Israel for the
seriousness of his injury until he was pronounced dead there. The police
initiated an investigation.

It
should be noted that a medical source at the European Gaza Hospital reported on
20 August 2015 that Mohammed Belal Mohammed al-Barahma (6) died due to wounds
he sustained on 05 August 2015. Al-Barahma had been wounded by a bullet to the
head while he was playing with his father’s pistol in his family’s house in
Rafah. The child was taken to Abu Yusef al-Najjar Hospital in Rafah and then transferred
to the European Gaza Hospital in Khan Yunis until he was pronounced dead.

The
Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) strongly condemns the killing of
Dweikat and al-Barahma due to the misuse or proliferation of weapons, which is
part of the state of security chaos and assault on the rule of law in the oPt.
PCHR calls upon the attorney general to investigate the 2 incidents and take
the necessary legal measures for confronting the misuse and proliferation of
weapons.
